Fadrique was known as "Almirante." Count of Melba and Rueda. He was born about 1390/1399. Fadrique Enríquez de Mendoza passed away in 1473. Fernando del Pulgar (1436–1492), description of Fadrique: "he was small in stature, a little nearsighted, and he gained much honor and fame with his performance as commander of the fleet of Castile."[1]
Fadrique's father, Alonso Enríquez, was the son of Fadrique, an illegitimate child of Alfonso XI of Castile. Alonso's family line was considered important because of their descent from the royal line and the fact that in Castile they owned many possessions. [1]
When his father, Alonso Enriquez, died in 1429, Alonso Fadrique inherited his father's estate and titles. His inheritance included: Ricohombre, Master of Order of Santiago, lord of Medina de Rioseco, Castro Verde and Torrelobatón. [1]
He was one of the main advisors to King John II of Castile. [1]
